Farm to Table Dinner Event Raises $12,000 to Support Horticulture Program for Children

$12,000 raised to support Horticulture Program for children!

CANAAN, NY- Berkshire Farm Center held its First Annual Farm-to-Table Dinner Event, “An Evening at The Greenhouse” on Saturday, September 23rd. Over 130 guests were in attendance at the campus greenhouse to help support and raise funds for the agency’s Horticulture Program. Berkshire Farm President and CEO, Jim Dennis, and Event Sponsors, Bob Kandel and Abby Hamlin, welcomed members of the local community including Bob Gibson, Commissioner of Columbia County DSS.

“Our Horticulture Program provides structure, builds work ethic, and teaches our youth the workforce and life skills they will need to be successful.  The program also establishes a sense of belonging and brotherhood which has led many alums to return to campus to show their support for a program that many have described as a changing point in their lives” said Dennis.

The event began at 4pm with seasonal mocktails and acoustic music by Local Musician, Tom Thorpe. The star of the night, the farm fresh food, was grown by youth in Berkshire’s Horticulture Program as well as donated by local farms from Massachusetts and New York. The elegant menu, showcasing items such as Bourbon Braised Beef and a Lemon Basil Parmesan Risotto, was prepared by Berkshire’s Chef, Laura Lipoufski along with her team and guest chef, William Boudreau. Participating farms included; Altamont Orchards, Bittersweet Farm, Burger Farm, Elmartin Farm, Kinderhook Farm, Otis Poultry Farm, Running Creek Farm, Schuyler Bakery, and Swartz Farm.

“Our Horticulture Program depends highly on the generosity of our donors,” said Dennis. “We truly appreciate all who attended our event on Saturday.”
